"English rock music is all about reclaiming our identities from capitalism." That was a lightbulb moment for me. Definitely giving this song a listen.

Ellie! Thank you for reading. I feel like I am drawn to all things anti-capitalism right now (for obvious "laid off" reasons) and I cannot get enough.

Great write-up as always, love how you weave the album themes with life. Their album before this is titled Modern Life is Rubbish. Boo for layoffs and irresponsible advancement, but yay for Britpop! I love blur! Although everyone knew Song 2 when I was in middle school, a friend of mine introduced me to their much deeper catalog later on. Damon Albarn is such a creative genius. After blur went on hiatus, he started Gorillaz. I was able to see Gorillaz live last year, but have never seen blur. They just reunited after almost a decade of inactivity, but so far are just playing dates in Europe. One fun thing to read up on is the intense rivalry blur had with Oasis since blur was a nod back to the British Invasion bands and the Mod movement, while Oasis embraced the excess rock and roller lifestyle. There's a series on Netflix called This is Pop that has an episode devoted to Britpop.

As a side note, I see that Pavement's album Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is coming up at #434. If you are looking for a guest spot writer, I know a guy.

This is Pop was so fun!! I loved that series and I am glad someone else enjoyed it. Gosh, I love all of this information. It makes total sense for them to be grumpy with Oasis and vice versa. I am super down to have you guest spot! That is a great idea. Email me separately and we will set it up!! nicolleokoren@gmail.com
